Idaho Medical Academy’s online EMT course is built for the busy student who wants to set their own days and hours of learning from home. You get a user-friendly online learning platform and a dedicated remote instructor for any questions along the way. The self-paced course delivers the same education and NREMT certification as our in-person course, with the flexibility to complete your coursework on your own schedule.
Once your online material is complete, you attend an in-person 20-hour skills week, where you learn hands-on from experienced EMS staff, ask questions, and get comfortable with every course skill before testing.
Students must complete both the online course and the skills week to register and test for the NREMT.
The same NREMT-track education as our in-person course, priced to be reachable at $1,575, with payment plans and Idaho funding to help. You study online on your own schedule, then travel to Moscow for a single focused skills week. It's a direct path from enrollment to testing for the National Registry.
Most students come to the self-paced EMT course with one of these goals, united by a plan to start working in the field, fast.
EMT certification is a hiring requirement or strong advantage at most fire departments, and the single most common reason our students enroll. Get certified on your schedule while you prepare for the academy or a department hiring cycle.
EMT is the entry credential for working on an ambulance or starting a career in emergency medicine. This course gets you NREMT-ready to begin.
A growing number of students use EMT to build patient-care experience and strengthen applications for nursing, PA, and medical school, on a schedule that works around existing coursework.
Most of our students work full-time. Self-paced coursework lets you study around your shifts and finish on your own timeline, then travel for a single focused skills week.
Fire and EMS agencies across the region use our online course plus a local skills week to certify recruits without sending them hundreds of miles away. Ask about group enrollment.
You complete the online coursework from home, then finish with four days of hands-on training in Moscow, close for the Palouse core and a straightforward trip for the wider Inland Northwest.
Skills week is a four-day, 20-hour in-person session where everything you learned online becomes hands-on: practice with real equipment, scenario work, and skills testing in small groups, taught by certified EMS instructors at a four-to-one student-to-instructor ratio. Your clinical requirement and the NREMT psychomotor skills testing are both completed here, so you leave ready to sit the NREMT exam. Passing is the norm, and if you need another attempt, we work with you.
Holding the session in Moscow keeps that hands-on week within reach of the whole region. The distances below show why it works for students across the Palouse and Inland Northwest, whether that’s a short drive or a trip worth planning an overnight for.
Skills week is held at the University Inn (Best Western Plus University Inn), so traveling students can stay on-site for all four days. The hotel sits on the Highway 8 corridor between Moscow and Pullman, with food and essentials a few minutes away. Moscow is a walkable college town and home to the University of Idaho, so there’s plenty nearby to make the days between training comfortable.

I took the EMT course with Roger Sherman as my instructor. Roger is hands down the best instructor I have ever had. Highly recommend taking a course here at IMA!
Excellent training. Outstanding instructors, demonstrating both quality classroom and field experience. I was energized by the whole experience and impressed by the scope of training for EMTs now.
IMA provided an easy checkout to select the class I needed. The class covered the required videos and hands-on training. Small class with a variety of professions, and the teacher was very nice and easy going.
