IMA’s online EMT course lets you complete your EMT coursework on your own schedule, from anywhere, with a dedicated remote instructor available for questions along the way. The course has two parts. First, the self-paced online material: 100 to 120 hours of lessons, videos, and knowledge checks you work through in Canvas at your own pace. Second, a four-day in-person Skills Week, where you practice and pass off the hands-on skills required for the NREMT.
When you enroll, you choose your Skills Week location and date, near home or anywhere you want to travel. Most students finish the online material in three to four months, so we recommend picking a Skills Week about that far out, though the pace is yours: move as fast as 30 days or take up to a full year. Skills Week is the in-person component of the course: four days, about 24 hours, at the location and date you selected when you enrolled.
Completing all online material is a prerequisite to attend. During the week, instructors coach you through the full hands-on skill set, and you complete your NREMT psychomotor testing and clinical hours. You leave Skills Week ready to sit for the NREMT written exam.
You can attend any location, not just the closest one. Students choose by schedule as much as by distance: if your preferred session is full in one city, another location may have the date you need. We recommend selecting a date three to four months out, the average time to finish the coursework. Rescheduling is possible but subject to eligibility criteria and a rescheduling fee, so choose a date you are confident you can reach.
NREMT certification proves you meet the national standard for entry-level EMTs. Your state EMS office issues the license that lets you work there, and most states accept National Registry certification as the basis for initial licensure.
Skills Week is where you complete your hands-on requirements, nothing more. Students attend in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, or California and go on to seek licensure in their home state.

You must be 16 or older (with guardian consent if under 18), have no felony convictions, and consent to a background check. A diploma or GED is an employment requirement for most EMS jobs, but is not an IMA Self-Paced Online EMT course enrollment requirement.
