Idaho Medical Academy’s Self-Paced EMT course pairs online coursework with a four-day, in-person skills week. You complete the didactic portion on your own schedule, then finish the course’s hands-on, clinical, and NREMT psychomotor requirements at our Boise Campus. Afterwards, you’re eligible to schedule your NREMT written exam and receive your NREMT EMT certification, a requirement for licensure as an EMT in most US states.
This course is great for busy students who want to set their own learning schedule, includes a user-friendly online learning platform and dedicated remote instructors, and provides our students with the same education and certification as our in-person course.

Work at your own pace. You have 30 days – 1 year to complete the coursework, with most students completing the online material in 3 to 4 months (100 to 120 hours).
Choose your Boise session at registration and complete a four-day, in-person skills week. Online material must be finished before you attend.
After passing skills week, schedule and take the NREMT written exam. Once you pass, you can pursue state licensure and a career as an EMT, firefighter, or healthcare worker.
You complete the online coursework from home, then finish with four days of hands-on training at our Boise campus, central to the Treasure Valley and a straightforward trip from across southern Idaho and eastern Oregon.
Skills week is a four-day, 6-hour per day, in-person session where everything you learned online becomes hands-on: practice with real equipment, scenario work, and skills testing in small groups, taught by certified EMS instructors at a four-to-one ratio.

Skills week is held at Idaho Medical Academy’s Boise Campus. Here is where to go, what to bring, and how to plan your stay.
Boise is a vibrant city with a lively downtown and many seasonal outdoor activities to enjoy just-outside of the metro area. Each day of skills week is 6-hours, leaving you ample opportunity to explore the city and participate in recreational activities. Be sure to check the weather forecast before your visit as temperature and weather conditions can vary widely by season.
Plan to arrive by 8:00 AM on the first day and check in at Suite 203. Skills week runs four days at six hours per day, and your prerequisites are verified on arrival.
A four-day skills week may require an overnight stay for students driving in from outside the Treasure Valley. Recommended hotels near the Boise Campus include La Quinta Inn, Comfort Suites, and Extended Stay America. Book early for weeks that fill quickly.
On-site parking is available at the campus at no additional charge, with food options close by. If you have accessibility needs for the training space, let us know when you register so we can accommodate you.

I had a great experience with Idaho Medical Academy. I took the self-paced EMT-B course and really appreciated the flexible schedule. During the skills week, everything came together. The instructors (I had Derek) were beyond willing to answer any lingering questions I had from the remote section, and we had plenty of self-guided time to practice scenarios or skills. This course gives you what you put into it. The skills week information is well balanced between info that is useful for the NREMT / skills sheets and info that is useful for the real world. I highly recommend this program!

At Idaho Medical Academy Boise Campus, 2323 S Vista Ave, Suite 203, Boise, ID 83705, minutes from the Boise Airport and downtown Boise.
Your course must be complete up to and including the Secondary Assessment: Trauma Benchmark three weeks before your skills week, and all didactic materials must be done by the Monday of that week. You also need NREMT and IGEMS accounts created in advance. Missing these deadlines makes you ineligible to attend, and a $400 transfer fee applies to reschedule.

If you’re looking to enjoy Downtown Boise while in town for your skills week, exceptional lodging and dining options exist only a few miles or a short drive (appoximately 10 minutes) from IMA’s campus.
Apply through IGEMS for a Provider BLS License – Initial, with your NREMT certification, a completed Background Check Unit check (start it early, it can take up to eight weeks), and affiliation with a licensed Idaho EMS agency or a Certificate of Eligibility.
