Both class formats lead to the same AHA BLS Provider certification and eCard, valid for two years. The only difference is how you best learn, and the time you’ll need to spend in-person with one of our certified AHA instructors.
BLS HeartCode Blended Learning works for first-time students and renewals, and is a popular option for both student types. HeartCode online coursework and e-workbook are covered by the class fee, and access is emailed to you as soon as you enroll. For BLS In-Person, IMA provides all course materials needed for class, with personal copies available for purchase.

AHA BLS is the healthcare-provider level of CPR, written for both pre-hospital and in-facility care. If you work with patients, or are about to, this is the card most employers and clinical sites require.
Hospital, clinic, and long-term-care staff who need a current AHA BLS Provider card for employment or credentialing.
Pre-hospital providers who are required to obtain and maintain BLS certification due to state licensure or agency requirements.
Nursing, medical assistant, phlebotomy, and other healthcare programs may require BLS certification for employment or to enroll in training programs.
Working providers, students, and anyone renewing a card. HeartCode lets you complete the coursework on your own schedule and finish with a short skills session at IMA.

Classes for individual students are held at Idaho Medical Academy, 2323 S Vista Ave Suite 203, Boise, ID 83705. Group classes can be held at IMA’s Boise Campus or your own facility in the Treasure Valley.
We teach BLS for groups at Idaho Medical Academy’s conveniently located Boise Campus, or host the class on-site at your facility (must be within our service area). Spanish-language BLS instruction is available.

BLS HeartCode Blended Learning is $80 and includes your AHA online coursework. The 4-hour in-person class is $60. Both result in your AHA BLS Provider certification and eCard upon successful class completion.
The HeartCode Blended Learning skills session takes about 1-2 hours at our Boise campus, after you complete the online coursework at your own pace. The in-person class is 4 hours, start to finish, with no pre-work.
Yes. HeartCode is approved by the AHA for both initial certification and renewal, and it earns the identical BLS Provider eCard. Choose the 4-hour in-person class instead if you learn better with an instructor walking you through the material in a classroom.
Two years. Your AHA BLS Provider eCard is emailed after class and is valid for two years from the class date.
Either format renews your card. Most renewing providers choose HeartCode Blended Learning option.
Yes. Idaho Medical Academy is an AHA Training Center, and this is the AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course, taught to the 2025 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. You receive an official AHA BLS Provider eCard upon successful completion of the class.
The coursework can be completed online, but AHA BLS certification always requires an in-person skills check-off. Our HeartCode Blended Learning class covers both: online coursework plus a 1-2 hour skills session at our Boise campus.
BLS is the healthcare-provider level: single-rescuer and team CPR, ventilations, and AED use for clinical and pre-hospital settings. Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid is the layperson-level course. Healthcare providers should take BLS.
All required coursework materials are included with the HeartCode BLS Blended Learning class, and IMA provides all course materials needed for the in-person class, with personal copies available for purchase.
Yes. Group classes run at our Boise location or on-site at your facility, with a minimum of 6 students and a $50 group fee. On-site classes within 25 miles of Meridian carry a $50 travel fee. Spanish-language BLS is available.
