This self-paced phlebotomy course is built for students who want to set their own days and hours and study from home. The coursework runs on a straightforward online platform, and a dedicated remote instructor answers your questions while you work through it.
The online course delivers the same education and the same certification pathway as our in-person phlebotomy course. Once the 20 hours of online material is finished, you attend a 20-hour skills week at the Boise campus, where you practice every skill on real equipment with experienced phlebotomy instructors. Both halves must be complete before you can register and test for national phlebotomy certification.
Our online phlebotomy course is $595, all-inclusive. That covers 20 hours of online coursework, the 20-hour skills week in Boise, use of the course book, drug testing, a background check, and your CPR certification, with no separate fees. You study from home on your own schedule with a dedicated remote instructor, then practice every skill in person before you test for national certification.

The online coursework and the in-person skills week together build the full entry-level phlebotomy skill set: performing venipuncture and capillary puncture with vacuum tubes, syringes, and butterfly needles; identifying patients and labeling specimens correctly; selecting the right collection equipment and additives; following infection-control and safety procedure; and applying quality assurance from draw to handoff. You’ll also practice the patient-interaction and professional-communication skills that clinics, labs, and donation centers expect from a job-ready phlebotomist.

Idaho Medical Academy's online Phlebotomy Technician course is built to set you up for success after the course. Employers may ask for a national certification in addition to your IMA certificate, so a national phlebotomy exam prep is included in your course. You can apply for whichever national certification an employer requires, recording your skills, class time, externship, or work experience as part of your application. Certification and what to know. Idaho does not license or require state certification for phlebotomists, so there’s no state-specific phlebotomy license to look for. Idaho Medical Academy is registered as a proprietary school with the Idaho State Board of Education.
Our course prepares you for national certification, and we offer on-site testing at our Boise campus. National certification is optional and not required to work as a phlebotomist in Idaho, but many employers prefer or require it, so we build the course to make sitting for a national exam straightforward if you choose to.
