Pharmacy Technician Program

A great job to pursue within the medical industry is a pharmacy technician. As a pharmacy technician (pharm tech), the primary role is to serve under a pharmacist. This primarily entails assembling prescriptions sent by the doctors for patient pickup. You do not need a standard four-year college degree in order to become a pharmacy technician, but you do need to become certified. Although there are many certification courses for Pharm Tech, we at Idaho Medical Academy offer an amazing program. Below you will find all the information about our Pharmacy Technician Program!

What You’ll Learn

At Idaho Medical Academy, we are very proud of the instructors we have teaching our courses. They are professionals in the medical industry and offer real-world experience in the classroom. After you complete the course under the guidance of our instructors, you can expect to be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the roles, responsibilities, and scope of practice of pharmacy technicians.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medical math used in the pharmacy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of prescription processing, including legal requirements, varying prescription formats (e.g., retail vs. institutional, e-script, paper prescriptions, etc.), and insurance billing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the legal and ethical framework of pharmacy technician practice.
  • Demonstrate professionalism as it relates to pharmacy technician practice.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of pharmacology and human physiology at a level appropriate to pharmacy technician practice.

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a simulated clinical experience in our lab, which will further prepare you for the real job. This covers the day-to-day functions of a pharmacy technician, so you will be completely prepared for the National Certification Exam!

National Certification Exam

At the end of the course, the students will take an exam called the PTCE (Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam), administered by PTCB (Pharmacy Certification Technician Board). The exam is 90 multiple-choice questions and will take you about an hour to complete. After completing the test with a passing grade, you will be a certified pharmacy technician!

Registration Fees

When you register for the Pharmacy Technician Program through Idaho Medical Academy, the course is not the only thing included in your registration fees. When you pay your fees, it includes the 6-month course, access to the online course, a required drug test and background check (per institution and clinical partners requirement), CPR healthcare provider training, and all of the fees required for the National Certification Exam. We also offer a payment plan to split up your payment. You will be required to pay a deposit to secure your spot in the course, and the remainder can be split into monthly payments. We have options to fit everyone’s financial needs, we are here for you!
