Hybrid Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)

NAEMT’s Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) is recognized around the world as the leading continuing education program for prehospital emergency trauma care. The mission of PHTLS is to promote excellence in trauma patient management by all providers involved in the delivery of prehospital care.  PHTLS is developed by NAEMT in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma. The Committee provides the medical direction and content oversight for the PHTLS program.

PHTLS courses improve the quality of trauma care and decrease mortality. The program is based on a philosophy stressing the treatment of the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. PHTLS promotes critical thinking as the foundation for providing quality care. It is based on the belief that, given a good fund of knowledge and key principles, EMS practitioners are capable of making reasoned decisions regarding patient care. The course utilizes the internationally recognized PHTLS textbook and covers the following topics:

In AMLS students learn to recognize, assess, and manage common medical crises in patients. Topics covered include: respiratory disorders, cardiovascular disorders, shock, neurologic disorders, abdominal disorders, endocrine and metabolic disorders, infectious diseases, environmental-related disorders, and toxicologic emergencies.

Critical thinking scenarios encourage interaction and challenge students to apply their knowledge to realistic situations.  At IMA scenarios will be conducted in the simulated training lab. During the scenarios, students:

EPC

The Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC) course is a comprehensive NAEMT education program for EMS practitioners. In this course you will gain knowledge and practice skills related to pediatric patient assessment and treatment, learn to deliver developmentally appropriate care, and build confidence as an EMS practitioner for the next pediatric emergency call. This course covers topics related to emergency care of sick and injured children, addressing the full spectrum of emergency illnesses, injuries and scenarios that an EMS practitioner might encounter. Pediatric Idaho Medical has unique challenges. While there are fewer pediatric encounters in the field, there are even fewer critical pediatric encounters. It is essential to assess and triage those children who are in need of immediate treatment and transport and those who are stable. Scenarios and treatment plans are a key component of EPC, facilitated by experienced instructors in IMA’s simulated realistic training lab. Upon successful completion of this course, students receive a certificate of completion, a wallet card recognizing them as EPC providers for 4 years, and 16 hours CE Credit.

Classes are scheduled for groups and corporate trainings upon request. Please call 208-996-9248 to schedule a course.
